Sales Tax Calculator
Sales tax is added to the price of goods at the point of sale. This calculator adds tax to a pre-tax price, removes it from a tax-inclusive total, or works out the rate from both prices. Presets cover every US state plus a number of Asian regions.

Calculate sales tax and total prices
Calculate sales tax, VAT, or GST when you know the pre-tax price and tax rate. Alternatively, calculate the pre-tax price from the total. Select a US state or Asian region to auto-fill its standard rate.
Formulas
- Tax amount
Tax = Pre-tax price × (Rate ÷ 100) - Total price
Total = Pre-tax price × (1 + Rate ÷ 100) - Pre-tax price from total
Pre-tax = Total ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)
Watch out: US presets are state-level rates only. Most states also allow county and city sales taxes, so the rate you actually pay is often higher than the state figure.
US state sales tax rates
State-level base rates used by the calculator's presets, with the tax and total on a 100.00 purchase. Local county and city taxes are not included and can raise the combined rate considerably.
